Let our rejoicing rise
High as the list'ning skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
--From “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” James Weldon Johnson

Join your St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and the IN UNISON Chorus for this joyful celebration of Black History Month. This concert highlights the magnificent variety and depth of Black musical expression.

A few things to know:

  • The St. Louis Symphony IN UNISON Chorus has shared the power of music from the African diaspora for 30 years. Originally started in fall 1994 for a one-time performance, reaction to the group’s talent and mission was so positive, the institution immediately made it a permanent ensemble in the SLSO family.
  • For six years, Lawrence has hosted Verizon’s national gospel choir talent competition “How Sweet the Sound,” working alongside Hezekiah Walker, Yolanda Adams, Tamela Mann, and other special guests.
  • Although most known for his vocals, Lawrence has built his career also on writing and producing, working with such acts as the legendary Clark Sisters, Clark Sheard, Kirk Franklin, and Hezekiah Walker (including No. 1 single “Souled Out”), among others.

Please note: Online ticket sales close three hours before the performance. However, you can still purchase tickets in person or by calling the box office at 314.534.1700.
