Join your SLSO for a celebration of St. Louis’ greatest loves—music and baseball—as the orchestra performs Americana classics by Scott Joplin, John Philip Sousa, and James Horner. Former Cardinals All-Star pitcher Adam Wainwright teams up with the SLSO for new orchestral takes of songs from his 2024 album Hey Y’all. Sportscaster Joe Buck narrates a special rendition of the iconic poem "Casey at the Bat," and Cardinals’ organist Dwayne Hilton brings the sound of the stadium organ to the concert hall for a night of thrilling music and baseball drama.
A few things to know:
- During Adam Wainwright’s 18-year career with the St. Louis Cardinals, he earned a reputation for his clutch performances, notably in the team’s 2006 and 2011 World Series wins. Wainwright and longtime teammate Yadier Molina are the most successful pitching and catching duo in Major League history, having both the most wins and starts together.
- One of the best-known poems in American literature, "Casey at the Bat" was written by Ernest Lawrence Thayer in 1888. In it, the hopes of the “Mudville nine” and all their fans rest on the mighty and confident Casey as he steps up to the plate. But will he score?
- An eight-time Emmy award winner, sportscaster Joe Buck has called seven Super Bowls and 24 World Series. With his father, Buck was a television and radio broadcaster for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1991 to 2007. And while he was raised in St. Louis, he was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, during the Cardinals’ spring training.
