Let our rejoicing rise
High as the list’ning skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.

Join your St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and the IN UNISON Chorus for this joyful celebration of Black History Month. The exquisite talents of renowned vocalist and choral composer Rosephanye Dunn Powell shine in this inspiring concert that showcases the magnificent variety and depth of Black musical expression.
A few things to know:
- The St. Louis Symphony IN UNISON Chorus has shared the power of music from the African diaspora for more than 30 years. Originally started in fall 1994 for a one-time performance, reaction to the group’s talent and mission was so positive, the institution immediately made it a permanent ensemble in the SLSO family.
- Dr. Rosephanye Powell has been hailed as one of America’s premier women composers of choral and solo vocal music. Her song cycles Miss Wheatley’s Garden, Then Here and Now, and Langston Dreams are published by Gentry Publications and performed by professional concert artists throughout the U.S. and Europe.
- Powell currently holds the position of professor of voice at Auburn University, where she teaches applied voice, art song literature, and vocal pedagogy courses; conducts the women’s chorus; and co-conducts the Concert Choir and AU Gospel Choir.
