Chamber Concert with Orli Shaham

Description

📍 This concert takes place at Powell Hall

Orli Shaham, piano & curator

Internationally acclaimed pianist Orli Shaham curates and leads a special chamber music program that shines a light on the talents of SLSO musicians. Shaham brings her “virtuosity and intelligent musicianship” (Chicago Classical Review) to the program, spotlighting musicians in small ensembles on the Powell Hall stage, offering a glimpse into the vast chamber music library.

Shaham solos in the Bernstein and Robertson: American Reflections program on March 6 and 7 as well.

A few things to know:

  • No stranger to chamber music, Shaham is on the piano and chamber music faculty at The Juilliard School and has recorded a vast library of chamber music, from small ensembles to duets with piano and violin alongside her brother, acclaimed violinist Gil Shaham.
  • A regular guest of the SLSO, Shaham has performed with the orchestra more than a dozen times since her debut in January 1999, sharing pieces by a range of composers, including John Adams, Leonard Bernstein, Johannes Brahms, George Gershwin, and W.A. Mozart.
  • Shaham has recorded two piano concertos with the SLSO—Mozart’s drastically different Nos. 17 and 24. Met with critical acclaim, each highlights the spirit of dialogue between soloist and orchestra and the ever-shifting exchange of musical ideas, colors, and textures used by Mozart to create a world of limitless dramatic possibilities.
