SCHUMANN Violin Concerto
R. STRAUSS Symphonic Fantasy from Die Frau ohne Schatten
HINDEMITH Symphonic Metamorphosis

Deemed by the Chicago Tribune as playing with a “panache, sensitivity and sizzling virtuosity,” violinist Renaud Capuçon joins the SLSO performing Schumann’s impressive, yet somber Violin Concerto. Guest Conductor Karina Canellakis leads the SLSO in this dynamic program.

  • Schumann’s Violin Concerto was last performed 49 years ago by the SLSO.
  • Beethoven’s heroic Leonore Overture No. 3 was written for an earlier version of his opera Fidelio, which tells the tale of the adventurous rescue of an unjustly imprisoned husband.
  • Did you know: Schumann’s Violin Concerto was forbidden to be performed until 100 years after his death, but the proviso was broken, 19 years before the expiration of the condition.
