Karina Canellakis, conductor
Ray Chen, violin

Due to illness, our violin soloist for this week, Renaud Capuçon, is unable to travel to St. Louis to perform Schumann’s Violin Concerto this weekend. The SLSO is grateful to violinist Ray Chen for joining us on short notice to perform Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5, “Turkish.”

BEETHOVEN Leonore Overture No. 3
MOZART Violin Concerto No. 5, K.219 “Turkish“
R. STRAUSS Symphonic Fantasy from Die Frau ohne Schatten
HINDEMITH Symphonic Metamorphosis

Deemed by the Chicago Tribune as playing with a “panache, sensitivity and sizzling virtuosity,” violinist Ray Chen joins the SLSO performing Mozart’s Fifth Violin Concerto, "Turkish.". Guest Conductor Karina Canellakis leads the SLSO in this dynamic program.

  • Beethoven’s heroic Leonore Overture No. 3 was written for an earlier version of his opera Fidelio, which tells the tale of the adventurous rescue of an unjustly imprisoned husband.
