Augustin Hadelich, violin & curator
Augustin Hadelich, the internationally acclaimed violinist, curates and leads a special chamber music program that shines a light on the talents of SLSO musicians. Hadelich brings his “highly expressive and technically brilliant” (KDHX) musicality to the program, spotlighting musicians in small ensembles on the Powell Hall stage, offering a glimpse into the vast chamber music library.
Hadelich solos in the Prokofiev and Sibelius: From Dark to Light program on October 24 and 25 as well.
A few things to know:
- A dual American German citizen born in Italy to German parents, Hadelich rose to fame when he won the Gold Medal at the 2006 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. In 2018, he was named “Instrumentalist of the Year” by the influential magazine Musical America.
- Hadelich received a Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo in 2016 for his recording of Henri Dutilleux’s Concerto “L’Arbre des songes.” A Warner Classics Artist, his most recent album, American Road Trip, journeys through the landscape of American music with pianist Orion Weiss.
- A frequent guest of the SLSO, Hadelich’s performances delivered “hair-raising fireworks” in 2024 (KDHX) and “a flawless reading” in 2017 (St. Louis Post-Dispatch). He toured with the SLSO in California in 2018, performing Benjamin Britten’s Violin Concerto with the orchestra.
